Gators U15 Blue Barrie Bash Tournament Update
Guelph Gators U15 Blue participated in the 2023 Barrie Bash tournament!
Game 1 vs. LaSalle Athletics
The Gators had their hands full against a very polished and efficient LaSalle
team. Strong hitting along with excellent pitching downed the Blue
team. Ainslie #14 earned herself the game MVP by working hard behind the
plate, and for scorching two extra base hits.
Game 2 vs. Halton Hawks
The Gators strung together some early hits to get on the board with 2
runs. The Hawks' bats woke up in the 3rd, and scored 6 runs to take the
lead. The Hawks chipped away and scored 4 more in the 4th, and didn't
look back. Some very good defensive plays by centre-fielder Chloe #16
earned her the game MVP. Well done Chloe!
Game 3 vs Barrie Storm Duval
After a tough Friday on the field, the Gators shook the dust off, and came to
compete on Saturday. Sporting their "Pink in the Park"
jerseys, the Gators faced a seasoned Barrie team. Both teams
battled throughout the game exchanging the lead several times showcasing tight
defense, and timely hitting. Barrie had home advantage, and
the Gators were up by one run in the bottom of the last inning.
With 2 out and a runner on 3rd, the batter scorched a high line drive
into left field. Mallori #33 tracked the ball from the crack of the bat,
and ran it down to make a beautiful catch to end the game, and secure the win for
the Blue. The entire Gator team stormed left field to celebrate the much
deserved win. The catch also earned Mallori the game MVP award by the Barrie
squad.
Game 4 vs Palmerston Teal
A familiar squad from loop play, the Gators had their work cut out for them as
the strong Marlin team has had the Gators number in the past. The Gators
jumped out to an early lead, and played tight defense. The Marlins fought
back and made the game close, but the Gators got a few insurance runs to seal
the victory. Dana #22 pitched a great game and earned herself the
game MVP award by the Marlins. Good sportsmanship, and efforts by
both teams in this match up.
Game 5 vs Barrie Storm 08
The Gators ran out of gas in this one after a hot day and into their 3rd game and
couldn't get a rally going. Barrie's pitcher threw a complete game, and
was very efficient with her pitch count. This one wasn't meant to be for
the Blue team.
Game 6 vs Halton Hawks (playoff elimination game)
A familiar opponent from Friday, the Gators needed to be good in this one
to get by the Hawks. The Gators scored 3 in the first to jump on the
lead. The Hawks countered with 2 in the bottom. Dana #22 and Erica
#3 did an excellent job in pitching tandem in this game. Timely hitting
and outstanding pitching from the Hawks earned them the victory in the
end. The Gators wished their opponents luck as the Hawks moved on in the
tournament.
Even though the score board didn't reflect, the weekend was a victory for the
Gator Blue team. Improving defense, timely hitting, and supporting each
other as a team was the a real plus for the local squad. The experience
the Gators soaked in from this weekend will certainly pay dividends for their
future, as they learned a lot about themselves and what they are capable of.
