U19 Gators Win Gold - Thrilling 1-0 Final Game Victory

The Gators U19 Clements team came away from the UTM / PPA Hithouse “Rock the Park” Tournament this past weekend with a perfect 6-0 record and a Gold Medal.
After a perfect 3-0 record in pool play on Saturday, Sunday started with the Quarter-final game vs Kawartha. Gators were down 5-0 after the top of the first, but battled back for a 10-8 victory. In the Semi-final game, it was a tight 3-2 victory over UTM East, with Lindsay Lima driving in the winning run with a clutch single in the bottom of the 6th.
In the final game vs Ontario Yankees, it was a pitchers’ duel, with Emily Lush pitching a complete game shutout for the Gators. Both the Yankees and Gators played sparkling defensively throughout to support the great pitching performances on both sides. While the Yankees never had a base runner get past 2nd, the Gators threatened a couple of times in the early innings, but couldn’t push a run across. Then in the bottom of the 6th, Kara Tutton scored the winning run by sliding under the tag at home, advancing on an infield ground out.
A few notes:
* The 4 Gators pitchers gave up a combined 8 earned runs in the 6 games over the weekend.
* Offense was led by Emily Brooks’ 2 home runs and a triple, while Cari Clements chipped in with a home run and a triple. Erin Purves was just on base all weekend!
* And on defense, lots of gold stars for Ellie Tindale’s play at shortstop.
