The Guelph Gators U15 Select team took to the fields in Brampton August 13th for a tournament.
17 teams attended this event from various parts of Ontario. The Select Gators hit the field thier first game against Whitby. A very close match until the 5th inning where the game slipped away, and Whitby came out on top 14-9.
The second game opponent was a red hot team from Vaughan. Excellent pitching and defense downed the Gators 16-1. Although the scoresheet didn't reflect it, the Gators played very well against a seasoned team.
The third game in the Round Robin found the Select Gators up against the hosting Brampton Flames. Good fundamental play from each team found them tied nearing the end of the game. With the Gators down by one with runners on and only one out, the game was dead stopped due to time expiration. Having Brampton on the ropes, the Gators hope to get another crack at the flames in future tournaments.
Considering the strong competition that the Gators faced, the team performed very well. Good contact, base running, defense and overall good fundamental softball kept the team in each game and the coaching staff was very proud of their efforts, and positive sportsmanship.
