MIDGET GATORS BRING HOME GOLD!
Submitted By GMSA on Wednesday, July 4, 2018
The Guelph Gators Midget 1 girls fastball team, sponsored by Mark Wilson's Used Cars, brought home their 2nd gold medal of the season winning the Cornerstone Invitational Classic in Kitchener.
After a slow start and a loss in their first game, the Gators reeled off 3 straight wins to end pool play with a 3-1 record. Quarter finals a mercy win over Springfield and a semi finals mercy win over the Windsor Wild put the Gators in the gold medal game vs. UTM.
The championship game started with UTM scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Guelph closed the gap to 3-1 with a run in the 3rd inning but continued to struggle at the plate for most of the game. Cue the dramatics in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Still behind 3-1, the Gator's were down to their last chance to make something happen. With one out, Celeste Clark beats out an errand throw to first and moves to 3rd base on a Jess Johnston timely bunt that catches the UTM infield off guard. Up steps Brooke Delion and with one swing, ties the score at 3-3 with a stand up double. Walk off time as Kaleigh McIntyre steps up and hits a gap shot that scores Delion from 2nd to secure the win for the Gators!
Congrats to the Midget girls for a solid weekend as they travel to the 2018 Firestyx College Exposure tournament in Flint, Michigan this weekend....…!!! This article has been viewed 1174 times.
